MSC Malaysia Smart School Road Shows – Northern Region


23rd - 24th April, 2010 at SMKA Al-Irshad, Pokok Sena, Kepala Batas, Penang

The northern region road show is one of the six MSC Malaysia Smart School Road Shows. The northern region road show gathered 550 participants i.e. parents, school administrators, teachers from neighbouring schools and communities within Pokok Sena area. The objectives of the MSC Malaysia Smart School Road Shows are as the following:

  1. To create awareness on the outcomes of the smart school implementation to the public.
  2. To accelerate the implementation of the multiplier effect model for the exponential growth of making all schools smart.

The MSC Malaysia Smart School Road Shows: Northern Region was officiated by Tuan Haji Ibrahim Mohamad, Director of Penang State Education Department and witnessed by Ministry of Education representative; officers from Penang State Education Department and State Education Technology Department; school administrators and teachers from the neighbouring schools. The following activities were conducted during the northern region road show as the following:

  1. Familiarization of smart school outcomes workshop for parents, schools administrators and teachers
  2. Exhibition on making all schools smart
  3. Sharing of information on the communities' role in ICT enculturation in school
  4. Smart school solution-based activities
  5. One-on-one updates on current Smart School Qualification Standards (SSQS) ratings with neighbouring schools and communities.

MSC Malaysia Smart School - Industry Contact Session


Cyberview Lodge Resort, Cyberjaya, 14 August 2009

The Smart School Department organized an MSC Malaysia Smart School - Industry Contact Session on Friday, 14th August 2009, which was held at the Cyberview Lodge Resort, Cyberjaya. 40 participants representing 22 companies offering a diverse range of products and services relevant for education were gathered.

In line with the making of all schools smart initiative, the event was aimed at sharing with industries the current progress of the smart school, emerging trends and future plans as well as obtaining feedback and comments from the participants. The session was officiated by MDeC's Chief Operating Officer, Ms. Ng Wan Peng.

Ms. Ng Wan Peng stressed in her welcoming remarks, "MDeC takes pride in leading the development of the Smart School Qualification Standards (SSQS) with MOE that has enabled MOE to measure the level of school readiness towards practicing the smart school approach in their teaching, learning and school management. It is important for the industry to understand the SSQS so that your services and products are aligned to the standards set in the SSQS since it has now become MOE's main reference for the Pembestarian or making all schools smart initiative."

Karnival Pembestarian Sekolah

9th - 12th April, 2009 at SMK (A) Sandakan, Sandakan, Sabah

The Ministry of Education organized the 'Karnival Pembestarian Sekolah' in SMK(A) Sandakan Sabah, as one of its outreach programmes to the rural community to promote the usage of technology in education. In realizing the Ministry of Education's vision of 'Making All Schools Smart by 2010' , the 'Pembestarian' concept highlights the utilization of various existing ICT initiatives provided by the government. Collaborative efforts are crucial in ensuring all ICT initiatives in schools are optimized for the benefit of teaching and learning (T&L).


The Karnival Pembestarian Sekolah is a medium to introduce new innovations in T&L, as well as to provide a hands-on experience for the rural community to try out and be aware of the advantages that technology brings to education. Programmes throughout the 'Karnival Pembestarian Sekolah' can be categorized in two stages, pre-event and during the event itself. Pre-event activities includes peer coaching activities on ICT integration for school teachers, event activities includes various workshops on ICT integration, exhibition on product and ICT services for T&L, demonstrations, national level ICT competitions and visitors activities.


Objectives:


  1. To inform and encourage ICT products and services utilization by using this avenue as a platform in introducing the ICT initiatives by MOE as well as other smart partners from the industry.
  2. To inform the rural community on the Making All Schools Smart by 2010 initiative
  3. To increase the students' 21st century learning skills in creating a competitive and competent human capital
  4. To reduce the digital divide between urban and rural community

MDeC's specific objectives at the 'Karnival Pembestarian Sekolah' :


  1. To reach out to the community and stakeholders, and engaging them through showcases of benefits that can be derived from smart schools initiatives towards creating an innovative and creative human capital pool.

  2. To enable the community to see and experience various teaching and learning methodology using ICT and how it empowers learning, and narrows the digital divide.

  3. To increase the public's confidence in MSC Malaysia by emphasizing on MDeC-led industry support to MOE's programmes in making rural schools smart.

  4. To encourage schools to integrate ICT in their school environment by utilizing existing ICT initiatives and infrastructure in schools.

  5. To highlight MDeC's role in making all schools smart.

Seminar Sedekad Sekolah Bestari

27th - 29th April, 2009 at Sekolah Sultan Alam Shah, Putrajaya

10 years have since passed when Malaysia first dreamt of creating schools which will nurture and develop future leaders holistically. Smart School, one of the seven flagships of the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC Malaysia), is now a dream realized.


In spite of being challenged with steep learning curves to scale, tremendous progress has been made and much has been achieved. In this regards, to celebrate the 10 years of the Smart School Flagship Application implementation, the Ministry of Education (MOE) will be organizing Seminar Sedekad Sekolah Bestari on 27th - 30th April, 2009 at Sek. Sultan Alam Shah, Putrajaya.


The main theme of the seminar is Sedekad Sekolah Bestari: Pengalaman dan Cabaran. The seminar consists of 3 sub-themes as the following:


  • Smart School Implementation
  • Challenges and Success Stories
  • Moving Forward

MDeC and MOE have been working closely in the implementation of the Smart School initiatives at 88 smart schools. Therefore, during the seminar, MDeC had shared our perspectives, approaches, roles, development and implementation of smart school programmes, challenges, success stories and way forward.
