MSC Malaysia's Knowledge Development Institute (KDI) develops your skills to ensure that you and your employees are armed with internationally recognized certification to compete in the global business arena.
MSC Malaysia KDI aims to facilitate the current and future demands of industry-relevant talent by the local ICT industry, especially by MSC Malaysia status companies. Towards this end, KDI offers various programmes encompassing career awareness, skills training, industrial attachments, curriculum alignment at Insitutions of Higher Learning (IHLs), as well as demand-supply projection. In executing its programmes, KDI works closely with relevant ministries and agencies especially the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Human Resources to ensure sustainable, effective and successful implementation.

Undergraduate Skills Programme (USP)

USP is specifically designed for Undergraduates who wish to enhance their skills in programming, database, operating systems, networking and much more. These technical and soft skill courses are inline with today's ICT industry needs and will increase the marketability of Malaysian Undergraduates. USP is conducted at Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) on customised basis.

Graduate Trainee Programme (GTP)

GTP is designed for MSC Malaysia status companies who wish to lower training cost when employing fresh graduates. This programme seeks to match MSC Malaysia status companies seeking ICT graduates and match them with capable fresh graduates.

  • Key Benefits:
    GTP creates opportunities of industry experiences to fresh graduates, working under guidance and supervision. GTP provides incentives to MSC Malaysia status companies to hire and train fresh graduates using their in-house training program/facilities.

The key beneficiaries of the programme are MSC Malaysia status companies and fresh graduates:
  • MSC Malaysia status companies can expect to:
    • Reduce initial training cost (up to RM9,000 reimbursement to MSC Malaysia status companies)
    • Gain access to a ready pool of young ICT talents

  • Fresh graduates can expect to gain:
    • Easier access to job opportunities in MSC Malaysia.
Programme Details
Duration
Companies can reimburse for the first 6 months for staff that are fresh graduates
Reimbursement amount
RM500 per month for up to 6 months (for SeS and SSO companies)
RM1,500 per month for up to 6 months (for CMC companies)
No. of graduate trainees per company - A maximum of 25 graduate trainees per company per year (subject to fund availability and KDI approval)
No. of graduate trainees per company
A maximum of 50 graduate trainees per company per year (subject to fund availability and KDI approval)
Reporting
Companies are required to submit basic progress reports during the 6 months.

    • Have an in-house training programme for graduate trainees.
  • For fresh graduates
    • Must be a Malaysian citizen.
    • Must have a minimum of a Diploma, from all fields of study with priority given to ICT-related study.
    • Must have CGPA of at least 2.5 and above
    • Must have graduated within 12 months from date of graduation.

Job Camp (JC)

JC is designed specifically for any Knowledge worker who wants to improve or expand their current ICT skills and knowledge. This program seeks to help knowledge workers with the support and access to courses and trainings to stay aligned with the current needs of the ICT industry.

    To equip K-workers with the relevant training for available positions such as Java Application Developers, Animators, Server Administrators, etc.

  • Key Benefits:
    JC provides free training to available k-workers (currently unemployed, in-between jobs, changing fields, retrenched) to develop skill sets required to meet existing vacancies in MSC Malaysia.
Opportunities Created through the MSC Malaysia Job Camp
Available K-Workers and the Malaysian ICT industry can benefit from the Job Camp programme. This is achieved by:
  • Available K-Workers
    • Enhance employability in the job market.
    • Improve their knowledge and skill sets and also stay abreast of the latest trends and best practices.

  • ICT Industry
    • Readily available talent pool.
Programme Details
  • Job Camp period ranges from one to six months of training.

  • Cost of programme:
    • FREE training for successful applicants.
    • Note: Does not include food, transportation and accommodation.

  • Available K-Workers
    (currently unemployed, in-between jobs, changing fields, retrenched)
  • Malaysian graduates.
  • Must obtain CGPA 2.5 and above
  • Hold at least a Diploma in IT-related fields

Industry-Academia Collaborations (IAC)

To meet the demands of at least 100,000 jobs by 2010 in MSC Malaysia, more sustainable long-term measures are needed to scale the development of industry relevant K-Workers. One such measure is to structure and formalise the Industry Academia Collaboration between Companies and the Universities with a view to produce the industry relevant K-Workers for those companies.

The main objective is to develop the Universities as anchor suppliers to cater to the demands of the companies that have large employment of fresh graduates. The IAC will provide the following:
  • Industry-relevant graduates are produced in mass quantities because the curriculum would be enhanced by industry modules.
  • Structured practical attachment for undergraduates through mentored real-life projects by the industry
  • Enhancement of skills of faculty members in the delivery of industry-relevant curriculum.
The IAC will comprise of the following activities in its effort to achieve the objectives above. These are:
  • Train-the-Trainer programs at Collaborating Universities
  • Collaboration to embed industry-relevant modules into the University curriculum.
  • Collaboration on providing final year students with industry projects

MSC Malaysia Skills Training and Enhancement Programme (STEP)

STEP is designed to provide Malaysian fresh graduates with attachment of up to twelve (12) months in selected MSC Malaysia Status companies for on-the-job training. The selected MSC Malaysia Status company would:

  • have an established internal training plan and suitable facilities for its trainees
  • have a sufficient number of trainers to conduct in-house training as required under STEP
  • have the intention of hiring these trainees upon completion of training

Opportunities Created through the MSC Malaysia Skills training and Enhancement Programme

The key beneficiaries of the programme are MSC Malaysia status companies and fresh graduates:
  • MSC Malaysia status companies can:
    • have the opportunity to select, train and develop fresh graduates.
    • fulfil immediate human capital needs.
    • reimburse up to RM1,000* per month per fresh graduate trained.

  • Fresh graduates can:
    • get access to on-the-job training (non-employment basis) .
    • expect to be paid an allowance of no less than RM1,000 per month.
Programme Details
  • Duration:
    up to 12 months 
  • Reimbursement amount :
    RM500 per month for up to 12 months or RM1,000* per month for up to 6 months (*in accordance to company training structure proposal)
  • No. of trainees per company:
    A maximum of 25 trainees per company per year (subject to fund availability and KDI approval)

    • Have a formal or structured in-house management trainee programme in place
  • For fresh graduates
    • Must be a Malaysian citizen.
    • Must have a minimum of a Diploma, from all fields of study with priority given to ICT-related study.
    • Must have graduated within 12 months from date of graduation

MSC Malaysia Undergraduate Apprenticeship and Development Programme (UGRAD)

UGRAD is specifically designed to facilitate high quality and on the job training for undergraduates during their apprenticeship or industry attachment. Selected MSC Malaysia status companies with robust internal training programmes will mentor the undergraduates for a period of 2 to 6 months. Upon completion, UGRAD trainees have high chances of being absorbed by participating companies.

This programme is targeted at IHL undergraduates during their industrial attachment. Besides preparing students with the right skills for the right jobs, the participating companies would also provide a minimum allowance of RM500 per intern per month for the duration of internship. MDeC will reimburse the participating companies the allowances paid to the trainees (a maximum of RM500 per month for a maximum of six months).

The participating companies are given priority to absorb the trainees upon completion of the programme.
