"Knowledge-sharing in R&D on IT Security" IT security has become critical for those who have valuable or sensitive data in their computer systems. In an era where almost all information systems are connected to the Internet by wired or wireless means, the possibilities for unauthorized access have increased, and threats from Cyberspace has become the rising trend.

The term "Information Security" means protecting confidential information or valuable data from people outside the organization who have malicious intent. Based on this, the core principle of information security is based on 3 principles- confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information. With these 3 principles, IT security aims to protect information systems such as hardware, software and communications systems that form the backbone of IT security.

The 1st MSC Malaysia Research and Development Exchange Forum will feature several notable speakers from F-Secure Corporation (M) Sdn Bhd, University Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), MagnaQuest Sdn Bhd, and visiting researchers from UK (under the Brain Gain Malaysia fund). These experts will share their knowledge on the current research and challenges in IT security.

Today's economic circumstances are affecting companies across the world. Budgets are tight and it is no longer affordable to travel far for meetings like before. However, thanks to the availability of TelePresence and Video Conferencing technologies, we now have options to conduct business remotely without losing the human element of a face-to-face meeting.

Video Conferencing has been around since the mid-1970s, where a number of video conferencing products have been released to the market. However, the cost of this technology, hardware requirement and bandwidth limitation has resulted in low adoption/implementation.

Telepresence is the new generation of video communication. It refers to a set of technologies which allow a person to feel as if they were present, to give the appearance that they were present, or to have an effect, at a location other than their true location. Telepresence requires that the senses of the user, or users, are provided with such stimuli as to give the feeling of being in that other location. Additionally, the user(s) may be given the ability to affect the remote location. In this case, the user's position, movements, actions, voice, etc. may be sensed, transmitted and duplicated in the remote location to bring about this effect. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telepresence).

The 2nd MSC Malaysia R&D Exchange Forum features a number of notable speakers from Panasonic Corporation Osaka, Panasonic R&D Centre Malaysia, ipVx Sdn Bhd, Multimedia University (MMU), University Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). They will share their knowledge with respect to current research areas, case studies and challenges in TelePresence and Video Conferencing technologies.
