A Workshop On The Development of The Concept and Terms of Reference for Shared Services and Outsourcing for Smart School Nationwide Deployment
8 October 2009
The Smart School Department, with the support of Shared Services and Outsourcing Department, organized a workshop on the The Development of The Concept and Terms of Reference for Shared Services and Outsourcing for Smart School Nationwide Deployment, on Thursday, 8th October 2009. The workshop was held at the Cyberview Lodge Resort, Cyberjaya. About 40 participants representing 14 Divisions and state network from Ministry of Education (MOE) were gathered.

The main objectives of the workshop are to increase the awareness of shared services and outsourcing in order to enhance the productivity and cost effectiveness of Smart School implementation, as well as to develop the concept and terms of reference of the shared services and outsourcing for the implementation of on-site monitoring and managed services for Smart School nationwide deployment. The workshop was led by Dr Norrizan Razali, Senior Manager of Smart School Department. Mr. Mohd Safuan Mohd Zairi, Head of Shared Services and Outsourcing Department, elaborated on the concept of the shared services and outsourcing. To give MOE a flavor of shared services and outsourcing, Malaysia Research & Education Network's (MYREN) representatives from Infostructure Department were also roped in to give first-hand experience during the breakout sessions.

In order for MoE to achieve 75% schools with 3-star ranking by 2010, the move to shared services and outsourcing by MoE is crucial. It is also to benefit the stakeholders in ensuring the teaching and learning activities in schools are not interrupted. MoE participants were receptive and hopeful that the shared services and outsourcing by MoE will enable them to focus on delivering quality education to the nation. More engagement sessions with MoE will be planned in the future for wider consideration of outsourcing by MoE.
